So at the end of a day which started at one end of Death Valley traversing to the opposite end at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, the heat and dryness evolved rapidly to cooler temperatures beneath cloud-covered skies in the valleys on the west side of the mountains. Arrival in Yosemite was planned for the end of the afternoon but before we could enter the park we had a steep climb up the Tioga Pass where magically it began to snow, such was the altitude at the top of the pass at 9945 feet above sea level. The air had become grey and hazy as we climbed the pass but the snow was a surprise and delight and an appreciation of the diversity of nature, even in such a narrow corridor.
